the brief

Analyze the content of an existing packaging label, break down its basic elements and rebuild it in different directions.

The Wrapper Project

Typography, packaging design, branding

The goal of this project was to analyze a food label's textual elements to determine hierarchy, information architecture, and visual design choices. The project is structured in five parts, each showcasing how different typographic choices can dramatically impact the overall message and visual identity. Through this process, I explored various factors influencing communication design.

Part 1

One typeface

Extract the label’s text and compose different layouts considering hierarchy of information. Create a grid and follow it in all the layouts.

Part 2

Two typefaces

Compose all of the textual content with two typefaces, two sizes, two weights and follow the grid.

Part 3

Two typefaces

Compose all of the textual content with three typefaces, various sizes, various weights. Alter the artboard to be the same as the original packaging and modify the columns to explore more layouts.

Part 4

Type as image

Personal interpretation of information, experiment with type only; there is no limitation on type choice, size, style, etc. Continue with color options; you can also add visual textures. Include two more labels of the selected design but with different flavors.

I created a mind map with possible adjectives to create a visual language. I decided to make the explorations simple, bold, and fun.

Part 5

Type as image

Free form, expressive composition, type + image (introduction of images, original illustrations or collaged/heavily altered photographs). Apply the selected designs to the other two flavors.
